Earlier this morning, the quote above popped into my head. It was perfect because it would help me expand on yesterday’s thought of the day (Read More: Aug 19th: 2015 Thought of the Day). Other than a lack of courage what is the most common trap that prevents people from running their own race and living the life of their dreams? Paralysis by Analysis.
You do NOT need to have the most detailed and perfect plan. The number one reason that people want such a plan is because it would ensure that they can achieve their goal as quickly as possible and minimize the risk of failure and rejection. There is never the perfect path to your goal in life. Failure and rejection are essential to success. This is not just a nice platitude, it is the basis of 99% of all biological control mechanisms and something all control engineers utilize in their designs.
Negative feedback is essential to complete even the simplest tasks. For example your thermostat could NOT work without negative feedback. Another good example that may be more relevant is pain. Pain is almost universally thought of as bad. However, the few people who suffer from Congenital Insensitivity to Pain can only dream of experiencing pain. When you place your hand on a hot stove top, you feel excruciating pain. That pain saved you from experiencing permanent damage to your hand. Without that negative feedback you would not learn to avoid placing your hand on a hot stove top.
Therefore it is essential that you re-frame how you view failure and rejection. It is just negative feedback that will allow you to stay on course to achieving your goals and dreams. You do NOT have the luxury to wait, and construct the perfect plan. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. Be bold, and chase after your dreams aggressively. Be willing to risk making mistakes. However, this is not an excuse to be reckless. You must be self aware and learn from your mistakes. It is okay to make mistakes, but it is NOT okay to repeat the same mistake over and over again.
Be Happy and Chase your Dreams,
